Normally I prefer to let the audience work out for themselves what my work is about but in this case
I thought a few notes might be appropriate. Mostly I work with a sort of DIY ethic, by that I mean
that I do everything myself, everything you see on this website, the website itself, and a bit more.
Also I’m quite into recycling, not just cos it's good for the world and all or provides alternatives
to blind consumerism, but I believe a certain magic takes place when for example one creates
something out of materials which have been discarded, dumped, forgotten or passed on by their
previous owners. I would go so far as to say that this process is a form of Alchemy, yesterday’s
soggy cardboard is today’s project and tomorrows latest piece, and people really do value this stuff.
As for the actual content of my work images are often influenced by the vernacular and everyday, yet
still from time to time my drawings and paintings use this recycling ethic, re-appropriating a
classic Caravaggio composition, a Terrazzo floor texture or Mc Donald's graphics for example.
Although there are normally certain ideas at play I believe the viewers own interpretation is equally
as valid whether they see my vision or their own. You may also notice that I like to do stuff on the
streets, as a member of public having my fair democratic share of the public space, but more on this
another time as I could rant for hours on that one. A few words about my printmaking work also,
mainly I use Screen Printing which is an ancient low-tech way of transferring an image using a
squeegee to drag a layer of pigment through a fine mesh onto the desired surface. The image is often
created with stencils, masking or with the use of a photo sensitive emulsion. It is reasonably
common in these times for artists to pass on their printmaking needs to an agency or print house
who will often handle this process for them as well as the sale of such prints - at a cost of
course. However here you may be interested to know that I print all my own shit with my own hands,
sometimes even with screens and pigments I have made myself, soon I’ll be making my own paper too.
Anyway a few technical notes: All artworks displayed are measured in inches and are rounded off to
the nearest half inch. All colours are displayed as accurately as possible, yet variations will
occur from monitor to monitor. Prices (for drawings and painting are available on request)
are not normally negotiable but in some cases if a worthy cause presents itself I might haggle. On a
similar note you might be able to hire me if your cause isn't crooked (I’ll decide) and in rare
circumstances if presented with such a righteous benevolent cause (even though I’m not rich) I might
offer my services free of charge. So may I leave you with the old saying: "Curiosity thrilled the
cat" dont go getting yourselves into too much trouble.
